La règle
En anglais, on met un article devant un nom. Utilise a devant un son de consonne, an devant un son de voyelle et the quand la personne ou la chose est précise ou déjà connue.
Exemple
Phrase : I saw ___ elephant near the gate.
1. Elephant commence par un son de voyelle : je choisis an.
2. Je complète la phrase : I saw an elephant near the gate.
3. Le nom est présenté pour la première fois; an convient.
Attention
Ne choisis pas the seulement parce qu’un nom est au singulier : utilise-le lorsqu’il est précis ou déjà identifié.
